This term is often used for installations that don’t involve constructing a large, standalone tower (greenfield site), but rather involve deploying smaller communication nodes like microcells or pico-cells, or installing equipment on existing structures such as rooftops, utility poles, or street furniture. While still encompassing civil preparations (like reinforcing existing structures or creating small concrete pads), mechanical installation of compact antennas and equipment, and electrical connections for power and grounding, Mini CME projects are characterized by their reduced scope, lighter footprint, and often quicker deployment compared to traditional large-scale tower builds, serving to expand network coverage and capacity in urban or specific high-demand areas.

The Process

The construction of telecommunication tower infrastructure involves a comprehensive Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical (CME) process. Civil works establish the foundational stability, encompassing site surveys, land preparation, robust foundation installation, and the actual erection of the tower structure, along with supporting buildings like shelters and fencing. Mechanical aspects then integrate the functional components, including the precise installation of antennas and microwave dishes, efficient routing of feeder cables, and often climate control systems within the equipment shelters. Finally, Electrical systems ensure the tower’s operational power and safety, covering crucial grounding and lightning protection, the setup of main and distribution electrical panels, reliable power supply systems (including PLN connection, rectifiers, battery banks, and often generators), and essential obstruction lighting for aviation safety.
